Encounters
"For you shall go out with joy”
At the 30th International Old Catholic Congress, this topic is reflected again and again in the methods and activities offered. Joy also means being active and going on excursions. St. Augustine’s Church, located in the middle of Zurich’s old town, is the centre of the activities - this is where all worship services will be held and all presentations and roundtable meetings will take place. The central meeting place of the congress will be the Münz church parish hall – and throughout the entire week, it will provide the space where we can meet one another and enjoy meals. We will be out on an excursion on Wednesday and take pleasure in the community experience.  We will also have this opportunity during creative workshops and in the outreach activities. Your personal congress programme is intended to be full of activities, variety and motivation. This is why you will be able to play a role in how the programme is organised.  You may choose from the various activities offered in the morning and in the afternoon on Tuesday and Thursday and combine those as you please.
Oral presentations
We will meet to hear oral presentations on subjects ranging from the seriousness of life to humorous spirituality
  • Bischof Dr Dick Schoon (NL): “The church as a Place of Joy – Yesterday and Today”
(approach: History of the church / ecclesiological perspective)

  • Henriette Crüwell (D): Does God Have a Sense of Humour?” (approach: Theological/systematic)

  • Bischof Dr John Okoro (A): “How Seriously Should I Take Life?” (approach: psychotherapeutic/theological)

  • Pfr PD Dr Michael Bangert (CH): “Zest for Life as a Spiritual Path” (approach: Mysticism and the Tradition of “Holy Fools”) – working title: “Humour and Humility as the Basis for Christian Spirituality”

On Tuesday, there will be two oral presentations in the morning and two in the afternoon. On Thursday, the oral presentations will be repeated in the same order.

Workshops
We will come together to
  • experience the art of clownery and pantomime performed by an experienced artist

  • actively participate in the art of sounds “Experiencing sounds” with a multitalented sound therapist

  • implement the art of the comic with a well-known cartoonist

  • experience the art of drawing in the language of pictures with an experienced designer

On Tuesday and Thursday, two of the same workshops will be held in the morning and in the afternoon.

Diaconisc Encounters

The outreach dimension will be achieved by visiting and dedicating our time to working with the physically disabled at
St. Jakob », a home for the physically disabled.

People with physical disabilities are a part of our society. The St. Jakob Home for the Physically Disabled in Zurich offers our fellow human beings with disabilities more than 400 jobs and thus an outlook for a hopeful future. Two groups can participate in guided tours through the foundation’s facilities, which are scheduled during both morning and afternoon hours. During these tours, there will be an opportunity to also participate actively and in an outreach function in both the bakery and the confisserie
